A/B Testing
A/B testing (also known as split testing) is a method of comparing two versions of a webpage or app against each other to determine which one performs better.
What is A/B Testing?
At its core, A/B testing is an experiment where two or more variants of a page are shown to users at random, and statistical analysis is used to determine which variation performs better for a given conversion goal.
Think of it as a scientific experiment for your website. Instead of guessing what your users want, you let them decide by showing them different options and measuring their reactions.
How A/B Testing Works
- Identify a Goal: Decide what you want to improve (e.g., button clicks, signups, or purchases).
- Create Variations: Make a change to an existing page (Variant B) to compare against the original (Variant A).
- Split Traffic: Randomly assign your visitors to either Variant A or Variant B.
- Collect Data: Measure how users interact with each version.
- Analyze Results: Use statistics to see if one version performed significantly better.
Why A/B Test?
- Data-driven decisions: Move away from "we think" to "we know."
- Improved ROI: Increase the value of your existing traffic without spending more on ads.
- Reduced risk: Test small changes before committing to major redesigns.
- Understand your users: Learn what actually resonates with your specific audience.
Modern A/B Testing
With tools like runab, A/B testing is no longer just for big tech companies. You can set up a test in minutes and see results in real-time.
